Global Shelter Project'Shelter for all' and post disaster reconstruction... The Veerhuis ideology The Veerhuis concept offers a completely new, innovative and creative alternative for the solution of Target 11, MDG nr 7 in the developing world: "Shelter for all'. By inducing investments, creating jobs for local communities, developing new skills and stimulating a new industry, it can solve the problem of slums and provide the homeless with better, safer and healthier housing at an affordable price.
It saves on energy at three levels (during construction, while using the shelter and during demolition), stops the depletion of natural resources, decreases CO2 emissions and works faster than any other method of shelter construction.
'Train the trainers' Workers - both men and woman -, with limited education and experience can be trained as employees to work with the concept and techniques in a very simple and time efficient manner. Very basic skills are sufficient. A maximum training course of one week is required, for youngster without any education and other vulnerable groups as well.
The training is organized as an integral part of the programme. We prefer to set up the training so that we extensively train a core group of builders in order to enable them to further supervise training programmes for other builders and their employees as the project moves ahead. We call this the Train-the-trainer methodology.
